Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor – Details, Route Map, Tender Information & Latest Developments

The proposed Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) project is set to revolutionize transportation infrastructure in the state, connecting key regions through a 121.742 km semi high-speed rail line. Linking Harsana Kalan in Sonipat to Asaoti in Palwal, this corridor traverses 17 stations along the Kundli – Manesar – Palwal (KMP) / Western Peripheral Expressway, with an estimated cost of Rs. 4,822.69 crore.

Project Scope:
Once operational, passenger trains on this broad gauge line will run at speeds of up to 160 kmph, facilitating swift and efficient connectivity across Haryana. With 14 new and 3 existing stations, the corridor will integrate Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkoda into its route. Additionally, freight trains will adhere to Dedicated Freight Corridor standards, bolstering logistical efficiency between major hubs.

Strategic Objectives: The HORC project aims to alleviate congestion in Delhi by offering an alternative route and facilitating seamless interchange connectivity with Indian Railways' main radial routes, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) at Pirthala, and the Delhi – SNB RRTS Line at Panchgaon.

Project Development: The project garnered in-principle approval from the Haryana government in December 2018. It will be executed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) and financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $400 million loan. In 2021, RITES – SMEC JV was appointed as the project's General Consultant, marking a significant milestone in its progression.

System Specifications and Key Figures: With a top speed of 160 kmph and an average speed of 120 kmph, the HORC project operates on a broad gauge track with a traction system of 25 KV AC overhead catenary (OHE). As of April 15, 2020, the estimated project cost stands at Rs. 4,822.69 crore. However, no official deadline has been announced yet.

Route Information: The corridor spans 121.742 km primarily at-grade, with some sections elevated. While specific station details are pending, expectations include new stations at strategic points such as Tarakpur, Asoada, Mandhoti, Badli, Sultanpur, Patli, Manesar, Panchgaon, Chandla Dungerwas, and IMT Sohna. Additionally, existing stations at Asaoti, Pirthala Yard, and Harsana Kalan will serve as key interchanges.

Route Map and Future Prospects: While the alignment is undergoing finalization, the indicative route map showcases the corridor's trajectory, promising enhanced connectivity and logistical efficiency upon completion.

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) project stands as a testament to the state's commitment to infrastructure development and economic progress. As it continues to unfold, it is poised to transform transportation dynamics and catalyze growth across Haryana.
