In a monumental stride towards enhancing transportation infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently virtually inaugurated the Agra Metro from Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in the development journey of Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ceremoniously took the inaugural ride on the priority corridor, underscoring the importance of this new mode of transit.
Completed ahead of schedule, the 6 km corridor of the Agra Metro connects iconic landmarks such as the eastern gate of the Taj Mahal to the Mankameshwar Temple station, ushering in a new era of connectivity for both tourists and locals alike.
Comprising of six strategically placed stations, the Agra Metro ensures easy access to key attractions including the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Mankameshwar Temple, and Jama Masjid. The blend of three elevated and three underground stations not only facilitates seamless travel but also adds to the city's architectural charm.
Operating from 6 am to 10 pm, the metro offers convenient timings for commuters, coupled with an affordable fare structure, making it accessible to all sections of society. Moreover, each station is not just a functional space but a canvas depicting the vibrant local 'Braj' culture through intricately crafted paintings and artwork.
The successful implementation of the Agra Metro project stands as a testament to the commitment of the Uttar Pradesh government towards modernizing infrastructure while preserving the rich heritage of the region. With a total project cost of Rs 8,379 crore, the Agra Metro will span two corridors covering a distance of 30 km, encompassing 27 stations, of which 20 will be elevated and seven underground.
The first corridor, stretching from Taj East Gate to Sikandra, spans 14 km, while the second corridor from Agra Cantt Station to Kalindi Vihar covers 16 km. This extensive network will not only streamline intra-city travel but also boost tourism and economic activities in the region.
The successful inauguration of the Agra Metro exemplifies the synergy between modernization and heritage preservation, reflecting the vision of a progressive and connected Uttar Pradesh. Congratulations to the state government for this remarkable achievement, which promises to redefine the transportation landscape of Agra and elevate its status as a premier tourist destination in India.
