The Virar Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor (VAMMC), one of Maharashtra’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, has reached a critical milestone. Seven of India’s leading infrastructure companies — Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Navayuga Engineering Company (NECL), Oriental Structural Engineers (OSE), IRCON International, J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL), Megha Engineering and Infrastructures (MEIL), and Welspun Enterprises (WEL) — have emerged as the lowest bidders for 11 construction packages of the 96.47 km Phase 1 stretch.
The corridor is planned as an 8–14 lane access-controlled highway, being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Once complete, this mega project will transform connectivity across Raigad, Thane, and Palghar districts, providing seamless travel between Virar and Alibaug while also reducing congestion in Mumbai and surrounding urban clusters.

Key Observations
- Oriental Structural Engineers, L&T, IRCON, and J Kumar each bagged two packages.
- Navayuga Engineering, Megha Engineering, and Welspun Enterprises secured one package each.
- However, bids were significantly higher than MSRDC’s estimates. For example:
- MMC-1: Navayuga’s bid was 38.71% higher than the estimate.
- MMC-2: Oriental’s bid was 26.47% higher than the estimate.
This cost escalation deadlock now puts the project timeline at risk. MSRDC may need to revise budgets or re-tender contracts.
